Bakken Formation Petroleum System Study

Geochemistry and Exploration Significance of Oils and Source Rock Samples from the Bakken Shale of the Williston Basin

GeoMark Research has completed a comprehensive regional study of the petroleum potential and character of the Bakken Formation in the Williston Basin.  The study combines an extensive compilation of both Upper and Lower Bakken source rock analyses with the analysis of Bakken-sourced oil and gas samples.  In addition, we performed an extensive thermal maturity analyses on selected Bakken core and oil samples (from the same wells) to detect out-of-place, migrated oil, and estimate the exact distance of migration.

The objective of this study is to define the petroleum system elements operating at Parshall Field, and predict where else in the basin the elements may also exist.  By determining the maturity, character, and migration history of Middle Bakken reservoired oils, we determined if the Bakken reservoired oil was generated in-place or if it has migrated.  If substantial migration had occurred, we determined the migration route and distance.  This enabled us to establish the extent of migration within the basin and provide an accurate delineation of the Middle Bakken play fairway.  This Study is one of the finest studies ever conducted by GeoMark and well worth your consideration.
