Central Montana Resource Potential Study

Detailed Analysis of Source Rock, Gas, and Oil Samples, GIS Database and Regional Interpretation of the Resource Potential of the Central Montana Trough

GeoMark Research has completed a comprehensive regional study of the petroleum potential of the Central Montana Trough.  The study focuses mainly on the resource potential of the Mississippian Heath and Bakken Formations, but other potential source units were also evaluated.  In its entirety, the study draws on the source rock analysis of over 55 individual wells, the detailed oil analysis of over 60 oil samples, and the analysis of over 100 gas samples.

This project produced an organic geochemical characterization of the Heath and Bakken Formations (organic richness, maturity, etc.).  Additionally, oil and gas geochemistry data was incorporated into the study to identify source units (oil to source correlation) and the “kitchen” areas were mapped.

A final report will be provided, summarizing interpretations and conclusions resulting from analysis and mapping of the combined data sets.
