Colombia Oil Study

Regional Petroleum Geochemistry of Crude Oils from the Llanos, Middle Magdalena, Upper Magdalena, Cauca Patia and Putumayo Basins

GeoMark Research has completed a regional assessment of all of the sedimentary basins of Colombia. The study is based on the detailed analysis of a suite of 298 crude oil samples representing production from virtually all major fields and every producing region.

Each of the oils was characterized by a detailed analytical program that includes bulk compositional data, quantitative biomarker analysis of terpanes and steranes, and determination of stable carbon isotope composition of saturate and aromatic hydrocarbon fractions.

The study accomplished the following: Determined the number of distinct oil families in each basin, Mapped the stratigraphic and geographic distribution of each family, Predicted the source unit/facies of each family, and Determined and ranked the petroleum systems in each basin.
