Far East Oil Study: Area I – Myanmar to Kalimantan

REGIONAL PETROLEUM GEOCHEMISTRY OF CRUDE OILS FROM MYANMAR, THAILAND, VIETNAM, MALAYSIA, SARAWAK, SABAH AND KALIMANTAN

GeoMark Research has performed a regional assessment of the petroleum systems extending from Myanmar to Sulawesi, including Thailand, southern Vietnam, Malaysia, and Kalimantan. This study includes the detailed analysis of a collection of 89 crude oil samples. The purpose of the study was to a) identify and characterize the petroleum systems active in each basin, b) predict the probable source rock unit, and c) assess the potential of the basin/region. The results proved particularly successful in delineating the various terrestrial oils types (deltaic, parallic and lacustrine) and allowed depositional models of source facies to be constructed for most regions.
