Far East Oil Study: Area II – Sumatra and Java

REGIONAL PETROLEUM GEOCHEMISTRY OF CRUDE OILS FROM SUMATRA, JAVA AND EASTERN INDONESIA

GeoMark Research has performed a regional assessment of the petroleum systems extending from Sumatra to Java, including north, central and southern Sumatra, Ardjuna Sea, onshore Java, East Java Sea and Madura. This study includes the detailed analysis of a collection of 122 crude oil samples. The purpose of the study was to a) identify and characterize the petroleum systems active in each basin, b) detect the presence of mixed oils, c) predict the probable source rock unit, and d) assess the remaining potential of the basin/region. The results proved particularly useful in delineating the various terrestrial oils types (deltaic, paralic or lacustrine).
