Niobrara Formation Resource Potential Study

Detailed Analysis of Source Rock, Gas, and Oil Samples, GIS Database and Regional Interpretation of the Resource Potential of the Niobrara

GeoMark has completed a comprehensive regional assessment of the resource potential of the Niobrara Formation across much of the Rocky mountain region. The study maps the source potential for both oil and gas and provides an estimation of oil or gas in place. In its entirety, the study involves the source rock analysis of over 200 individual wells or outcrop locations, the detailed oil analysis of an estimated 250 oil samples that have been sourced by the Niobrara, and the analysis of a collection of gas samples that have we feel have been sourced from the Niobrara.

This project offers an organic geochemical characterization of the Niobrara Formation throughout the Rockies. By comparing present-day organic richness to calculated original richness we estimated the quantities of hydrocarbon generated, and calculate hydrocarbon in place (oil, condensate and/or gas). Differences in the productive character and capacity of the Niobrara have been mapped and a geographic evaluation of resource potential is provided.

Analytical data for the study are provided digitally.  Submitted with the data are maps and plots used to interpret the data.  Interpretive commentary is given in an Adobe PDF document.  Microsoft Excel, Access, and ESRI ArcMAP are the data formats and mapping system used by GeoMark in this study.  A final report provides interpretations and conclusions resulting from analysis and mapping of the combined data sets.
