Peru Oil Study

GEOCHEMISTRY AND EXPLORATION SIGNIFICANCE OF CRUDE OILS AND OIL SEEPS FROM PERU

GeoMark Research, Inc. has completed a detailed, country-wide investigation of the geochemistry of crude oils and surface seeps from Peru. The study involves the detailed analysis of approximately 200 crude oil samples representing every sedimentary province.

A regional crude oil study of this type is the best method for evaluating the petroleum systems of Peru. The source rocks that generated the oil in this region were destroyed in the Andean Orogeny and offer little evidence of their oil generating history. However, all this evidence is preserved in the oils and can be revealed in a study of this type.

This study provides valuable insight into a) the number of petroleum systems active within the regions, b) the character of these systems, c) the relative importance of the differing systems and d) the overall potential of the various regions. Past studies have indicated that a sample base of this size was required to adequately assess the basins of Peru.
