Porcupine Basin Oil Study

GEOCHEMISTRY AND EXPLORATION SIGNIFICANCE OF CRUDE OILS FROM THE PORCUPINE BASIN

GeoMark Research Inc. has completed a regional assessment of the Porcupine
Basin by geochemically analyzing a suite of thirty (30) oil samples. Nine (9) of these samples came from the Porcupine Basin, with the remaining twenty-one (21) samples representing the Celtic, Fastnet, West of Shetland, Newfoundland, and North Sea Basins. This project is the third in a series of crude oil geochemical studies performed by GeoMark in the North Sea and North West Europe Continental Margin regions.

Each oil was characterized by a detailed analytical program that included bulk compositional data, quantitative biomarker analysis of terpanes and steranes, and determination of stable carbon isotope composition of saturate and aromatic hydrocarbon fractions. Using data from the oils and cluster and principal component analyses the petroleum systems of the Porcupine Basin are evaluated and compared to the major systems from surrounding Basins.
