Far East Oil Study

Regional Petroleum Geochemistry of Crude Oils from Basins of the Western Circum-Pacific

GeoMark Research has performed a regional assessment of the petroleum systems of the Far East. This study was accomplished by analyzing a collection of over 380 crude oil samples representing more than 50 sedimentary basins. The purpose of the study was to identify and characterize the petroleum systems active in each basin and predict the remaining potential. Each oil was characterized by a detailed analytical program which included quantitative biomarker analysis of terpanes and steranes and determination of stable carbon isotope composition of both saturate and aromatic fractions.

The results, integrated with regional geology allowed us to: Determine the number of distinct source units active in each basin or region, characterize the source units (e.g., lacustrine, deltaic, marine, etc.) in each basin, and estimate thermal maturities of the oils and predict the responsible source rocks.

This study has been broken into four Areas that can be purchased separately.
